THE sun is coming out and the days are getting longer, which means Eberechi Eze is hitting top form.

It is an unusual quirk of Eze’s game, the fact that he seems to be a different player when spring comes around, but it could just help fire to a historic quadruple.

Tuesday night’s venomous pirouette volley against was the perfect example of what the Arsenal man can do when he has confidence coursing through his veins.

described the goal as “magical”, and claimed Eze has “one of the best shots I have ever seen”.

But for those that know Eze, this was merely another example of how good he can be in decisive moments.

The underlying stats are remarkable, Eze is essentially twice as effective between the months of March and May than he is during the rest of the season.

In the 46 matches he has played between March and May across the last four seasons, Eze has scored 23 goals in all competitions.

That is brilliant form no matter which way you spin it, but it is even more impressive when you compare it to the fact he has scored just 21 from 111 games between August and February.

In fact, of the 40 Premier League goals that Eze has scored in his career, HALF of them have been netted in the final three months of the season.

It’s not just goals either; Eze starts to rack up assists when the clocks go back, too.

Since joining the Premier League in 2020, Eze has averaged a goal or assist every 257 minutes.

When the crunchtime of April and May rolls around, Eze averages a contribution every 118 minutes.

Those numbers are backed up by the intangible moments when Eze has stepped up on the biggest stage.

Last season, he netted in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final of the as he inspired to their first-ever major trophy.

Arteta will be hoping that his £68m man can replicate one of those moments on Sunday when Eze returns to Wembley for Arsenal’s Final clash with Manchester City.

The Arsenal manager is known for his marginal gains, extensive research and microscopic analysis, but even he wasn’t aware of Eze’s brilliance at the back end of the season until the media had informed him.

Asked on Tuesday night if he had been aware of Eze’s springtime brilliance, he said: “Yes. You know why I know? Because you guys told me. Because I didn’t know that to be fair.”

Eze has now scored four goals in his last seven appearances, and you would have him as favourite to start as the No10 for Arsenal on Sunday – even if captain was fit enough to return.

Eze now has confidence oozing out of his every move.

He has taken ten shots in his last two games and was trying nutmeg passes and inventive flicks throughout Tuesday night’s win over Leverkusen.

His celebration showed just how good he is feeling about his football at the moment.

While the rest of the Emirates was left with their jaws on the floor and his teammates were wide-eyed in disbelief, Eze was the coolest figure in the stadium as he waltzed off with a steely look on his face.

You would have been forgiven for thinking this was his 50th goal, not his first.

Eze has become the big moments player Arsenal fans were expecting, and for Arteta, he is finally showing why the Arsenal hierarchy splashed the cash on him in the summer.

Arteta said: “He’s playing every three days now. He has the rhythm, he has the understanding with his teammates as well, what we want.

“Especially his level of activity. With the ball, without the ball, in the spaces that he moves, the purpose that he’s showing every time he’s in and around the box as well.

“Which is the reason why he’s here, to create those kinds of moments.”

Perhaps Arteta could have criticised Eze’s willingness to press in the past, but even he admitted that the midfielder is looking better and better in Arsenal’s high-press system as the weeks go by.

He added: “Without that, you have no chance to play in this team.

“Because everybody does it, and that’s the magic of it, and the reason why we are so consistent in winning matches and preventing the opponent from scoring.

“He can do it. If he could not do it, I would never demand it. He can do it, he’s willing to do it, and he’s doing it better and better every day.”

Arsenal are still fighting on all four fronts and you would now expect Eze to be a huge part of helping the Gunners pull off something special this season.

That starts on Sunday at Wembley, where you have to assume Eze is a guaranteed starter for Arteta’s side.
