LINGERIE company co-founders and childhood sweethearts Dan and Melanie Marsden are among the UK’s wealthiest under-40s.
The duo are no strangers to the Rich List, with the success of their brand, Lounge Underwear, solidly cementing their status as two of the for the fourth year running.

Who are Dan and Melanie Marsden?
Originally from Birmingham, married couple , first met in primary school and started dating at age 16.
But before they co-founded Lounge Underwear, the duo were on very different career paths.
As a born entrepreneur, Daniel started out running several businesses, including acting as the managing director of the now-dissolved fishing company SWIM TACKLE Ltd from 2011-2015.
Prior to that, the businessman attended Redhill Secondary School in Stourbridge, West Midlands, from 2004 to 2008, and Haybridge Sixth Form from 2009 to 2011.
Little is known about whether he pursued further education. But Melanie had university plans of her own, graduating from Cardiff University with a degree in journalism, media and cultural studies in 2014.
Her original dream was to go into dance and musical theatre, but the couple’s idea would allow her to use her new commercial and creative skills to build a brand from scratch.
“We were together all through uni,”;; Melanie explained.
“It was that last year in 2014 when we talked about me taking a pocket of my student loan and him taking a pocket from the previous businesses he’d been running.
“We wondered could we put that together and see if we could build something when I graduated.”;;
The couple co-founded their first company Fashion Eyes in 2015, buying wholesale dresses to . A year later, the idea for Lounge Underwear was born.
She told Wales Online: “For us, it was a conversation around what is going to be cheap, small to store, something that will slip through a letterbox when you post it, lightweight so not expensive to ship, easily brandable â we had those criteria, and underwear ticked those boxes for us.”;;
Nearly a decade down the road, the pair have a combined net worth of £253 million, are the 20th most wealthy in Britain according to The Sunday Times, and also made the Drapers 30 Under 30 list in 2021.
They now live in Birmingham and now have two children: Felicity, aged 4, and Frederick, 18 months â plus a cockapoo, Pip.
What does Lounge Underwear sell and when did the company start?
The couple set up Lounge â which boasts celebrity and influencer fans alike â with an investment of just £1,000.
Based out of Melanie’s parents’ spare room, Melanie and Daniel made their first bras by cutting out pattern pieces and sending them off to be stitched together in Bulgaria, before delivering the finished products to a selection of .
Their social-first strategy was a clever one, and it worked incredibly well.
Since its inception in 2016, Lounge Underwear has amassed millions of followers, opened brick-and-mortar storefronts, and is now worth an estimated £151 million.
Now stocking apparel and swimwear alongside their signature lingerie sets, Lounge’s success has enabled Mel and Daniel to enjoy luxurious holidays, brand shoots in locations like the Bahamas, and the wedding of their dreams.
These days, the couple have a 100-strong workforce who operate out of a swanky office in Solihull, and have scaled up their warehouse each year.
Despite their solidified spot on The Rich list year after year, Melanie says she still can’t believe how much Lounge has grown.
“We’ve really grafted and we’ve put in a lot of time into building the business.
“We’ve worked to create the beast that we have and when you read a story about yourself it’s like: ‘Pinch me â how has this happened?'”;;
She told The Times: “We probably don’t appreciate the scale of what we’ve done â it all happened so quickly. Our lifestyle has changed in that we live in the house we do, but apart from that we are just two normal people.
“We’re still mates with all the people from sixth form, and we just love being at home, relaxing and chilling, drinking about ten cups of tea a day.”;;
They have no plans to slow down, either. While they’re already worth millions, Dan says there are no plans to part ways with the company any time soon.
He explained: “Do I want to slow down? No. We want to be the biggest underwear brand in the world.”;;
