A Rivers State High Court has directed the Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt City, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Councils, along with their Vice Chairmen and Councillors, to appear in court and show cause why their elections should not be nullified.
Justice Stephen Jumbo issued the order after including the Chairman of Obio-Akpor LGA, Gift Worlu, and 59 others as the second set of respondents in a suit filed by three Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stakeholders.
Before adjourning the case to March 17, 2026, for hearing, Justice Jumbo approved an application for substituted service by the claimants’ lawyer, Glory Chizim-Chinda, instructing that the court documents be served at the State Secretariat of the PDP on Aba Road.
The claimants, Enyi Uchechukwu, Wisdom Kalio, and Uche Amadi are challenging the State factional PDP Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, the PDP, and the Rivers State Government over the nomination of PDP Chairmen, their deputies, and councillors for the last council elections.
They argue that the state executive led by Chukwuemeka, whose election had previously been nullified by the Rivers State High Court, lacked the authority to submit candidate lists to RSIEC for the elections held on August 30, 2025.
The claimants are seeking a court declaration that the PDP’s Ward, LGA, and State elective congresses held on July 27 and August 10, 2024, are null and void, and that Chukwuemeka, being a product of these nullified congresses, had no legal capacity to conduct primaries or submit candidate lists.
They are also requesting a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants, or anyone acting on their behalf, from interfering with PDP’s internal affairs, including the nomination and presentation of candidates for elective positions.
