But according to one expert, Rachel Valentine, this is not as safe as many make it out to be.

Taking to , the trichologist explained how wearing claw clips on a regular basis can cause more harm than good to your hair – and what to do instead.

The beauty whizz, who posts under the username @ rachelvalentinehair , warned: ”The epidemic of claw clip hairstyles is the reason you are seeing around your crown area.”

She went on in the video: ”I know this is confusing because claw clips are meant to be the healthier way of putting your hair up.”

Rachel – who previously warned over – said that it’s not necessarily the hairstyle that’s causing damage.

Instead, it’s how often people reach for their claw clips.

”Unfortunately, any repetitive hairstyle will cause breakage.”

The guru, who boasts more than 116k followers on her page, said that ”it’s the tension on the same area” that’s leading to damage.

Whilst you may not necessarily spot it right away, even weeks later, rocking the same hairdo, especially when tight, will cause breakage down the line.

So, what to do instead? The answer is simple, she revealed.

”The best thing you can do is change your hair up and wear it different every day.

”So, claw clip one day, maybe a silk scrunchie the next, wearing it high or low and then wearing it down.”

By doing this, the beauty whizz said, you will ”spread the tension around the hair” and ”it doesn’t cause stress just on that one area”.

After watching the video, one horrified viewer said: ”Me slowly taking out my claw clip…”

Hairstyles that are kind to your locks

  1. Loose Braids: Opt for loose, soft braids rather than tight ones to minimise tension on the scalp and reduce breakage.
  2. Low Ponytail: A low ponytail is less stressful on your hair compared to high, tight ponytails. Use a fabric-covered hair tie to avoid snagging.
  3. Messy Bun: A relaxed, messy bun can be both stylish and kind to your hair. Avoid pulling your hair too tightly and use gentle hair ties.
  4. Soft Waves: Embrace your natural texture or use heatless methods to create soft waves, reducing the need for damaging heat styling tools.
  5. Half-Up, Half-Down: This style keeps some hair pulled back while leaving the rest down, reducing the strain on your scalp.
  6. Headbands and Scarves: Using headbands or scarves can keep hair out of your face without causing damage, and they can be quite fashionable.
  7. Loose Plaits for Sleeping: Before bed, loosely plait your hair to prevent tangles and breakage overnight.

It comes after a woman was left unable to move after a

Jeena Panesar had her done up with the accessory before she was involved in a horror smash.

The impact of the crash rammed the claw clip into the back of Jeena’s head until “most or all” of the hair accessory was embedded skull-deep in her flesh.

Now, she’s issued an urgent warning to drivers to avoid claw clips all together when behind the wheel.

Jeena said: “When I left work, it was a little foggy, but then it suddenly got really thick while I was driving.

“I felt my tyre dip into what I thought was a pothole, but the police later told me was a gully.”

“I think I hit a tree, which caused the car to flip – the police said it flipped 50 metres.”

She was left with a 30cm-cut from her left eyebrow to the back of her head – which docs fear was caused by the car roof.

“I want to advise people to take out their hair-claw clips before driving because I’m worried it could happen to someone else”, she added.

“I was really lucky, but I don’t want anyone else to take the risk.”
