CHELSEA are the worst team in the Premier League.

And their ‘talisman’, , should not be going to the World Cup this summer, for his and England‘s sake.

Since was sacked by Spurs on February 11th, have the lowest points tally of ANY team in the Premier League and would sit at the bottom of a Premier League table since that date.

That run includes SIX STRAIGHT LOSSES in the league, in which they face Liverpool at Anfield next.

The Blues are in trouble from top to bottom, and back to front.

Off the pitch, there are consistent protests from the ownership, there is no cohesion on what is happening with their stadium, and fans are virtually silent for the majority of matches, until they boo at the half-time and full-time whistles every week.

On the pitch, they are a disgrace.

Their finest performer in a dismalwas 18-year-old Jesse Derry, who was taken off before half-time after being knocked out cold.

Joao Pedro put in a decent showing, marked with a remarkable goal, but aside from that, abysmal.

Pedro claimed after the game that Chelsea’s stars need to ‘look at themselves’ rather than to blame interim manager Calum McFarlane for this spell.

The Brazilian said: “Everyone needs to look at themselves – me included.

“We need to find a way to do better. I feel sorry for the fans – tomorrow we see what has gone wrong.

“It’s difficult because I don’t think it’s about the coach. It’s about the players, and it’s on us to step up, me included. It’s difficult to say something.”

One of those players who needs to take a look in the mirror and step up is Cole Palmer.

The 23-year-old is one of the most talented players I have ever seen at , but this season, he does not look the same player we saw under and at times.

Granted, he struggled with injuries at the start of the season, and his form suffered as a result of that.

But even since he has been fit and playing regularly again, he looks well off the pace.

His touch has been poor; he seems to have forgotten how to beat his man, and it feels like a long time since fans at Stamford Bridge saw what was being coined the ‘Palmer touch’, which he used so frequently in his pomp to take any pressure away from him and glide through teams.

The less said about his disappointing dip in finishing, the better.

Once, he had a Midas touch, and everything he struck turned to gold.

Now it feels more like a Montgolfier touch, where everything he strikes balloons up, up and away.

Morgan Rogers, Jude Bellingham and Ebere Eze have all outperformed him this season, for my money, and are more deserving on merit of a spot in Thomas Tuchel‘s side this summer.

If you ask the Nottingham Forest fans who sang “England’s number 10” at Morgan Gibbs-White while he was on the pitch (and while he was off of it) then he is another who could be added to the list of English attacking midfielders better than Palmer this season.

Since 2025, Palmer’s numbers have dropped significantly, after he lit up Stamford Bridge immediately after joining in the 22/23 season.

In his first 66 games, he scored 37 goals and bagged 21 assists.

In 61 games since then, both sets of numbers have more than halved, as he’s scored 16 goals and 10 assists in that time.

It may come down to how much Tuchel believes in Cole Palmer’s ‘moments’ from the bench, a la Euro 2024…

But even when given a chance for the Three Lions in the most recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, he was impressive in one, and dismal in the other.

At the back for Chelsea, things are even worse.

And that is saying something considering Pedro’s goal was the first one they have scored in the Premier League since they beat Aston Villa at the start of March, two months ago.

The Blues have conceded three goals in three of their last four league matches.

Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo looked hopeless in the centre of defence, and defending greatness was watching on in the stands at Stamford Bridge in the form of Thiago Silva.

He must’ve been wondering where it all went so wrong after winning the in SW6 in 2021.

For Chelsea, it will be football at best next season, and even that may be a struggle.

They may find themselves in the Conference League again, or even not playing in Europe at all.

And you’d imagine that plenty of their big stars, on big money, with big egos, will not fancy another season of that.
