CHELSEA and Newcastle should be banned from the Champions League for “embarrassing” English football.

That is the view of talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor, who tore into the two Premier League clubs on Wednesday.

Chelsea were by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 this week.

And Newcastle only fared marginally better against Barcelona, who trounced them after netting SEVEN goals at the Nou Camp.

Agbonlahor reckons the Blues and the Magpies humiliated the Prem in a European round which also saw Manchester City and Tottenham crash out.

And the ex-Aston Villa striker is desperate for his former club to be back among the continent’s elite.

He wrote on X : “Chelsea and Newcastle deserve a year’s ban from the Champions League.

“Truly embarrassing the Premier League! Get Villa back in, we gave PSG one hell of a game!!!”

Villa pushed the Parisians all the way in last season’s quarter-finals.

But a was not quite enough to see them topple the Champions League’s eventual winners as the tie finished 5-4 on aggregate.

Agbonlahor is set to get his wish barring a huge late twist in the Prem season.

Villa’s form is faltering but they remain fourth in a campaign which should see five English sides qualify for the Champions League.

Sixth-place and ninth-place will both miss out unless they climb the standings.

Agbonlahor scored 87 goals in 391 games for Villa and spent his whole career with the Birmingham club, aside from two short loans as a teenager.
