And during the broadcaster’s coverage of yesterday’s quarter-finals, he showed he still has the same hot-headedness and sense of humour which made him a cult hero.
Following a back-and-forth with presenter Federica Masolin, the 57-year-old banged his head on the table THREE TIMES.
And the banging of his head on the piece of furniture appeared to draw blood.
The entire production team, as well as the millions of viewers across the country, were stunned by Di Canio’s antics.
As was fellow pundit, former and manager Fabio Capello.
Capello was quickly on hand to give a tissue to wipe his forehead after realising his countryman was bleeding.
Host Masolin couldn’t quite believe what she’d witnessed, chuckling as Di Canio lamented his outburst as he sat back down with a tissue on his head.

Footage of Di Canio’s antics, understandbly, went viral – which would’ve been the case for several of his on-the-pitch incidents had social media been around then.
One baffled footie fan wrote on X: “Hahahaha, absolute chaos this lad. What a player, though.”
Another said: “Unhinged Paolo is the best Paolo.”
And another said: “Goldberg is proud.”
One sarcastically remarked: “He always used to seem so chill.”
Another chimed in: His head’s f***ed up, damn it.”
Di Canio’s most memorable act of hot-headedness undoubtedly came when he was plying his trade for Sheffield Wednesday.
In the 1998/99 season, he protested receiving a red card against Arsenal by .
The late Alcock, who passed away in 2018, fell to the floor in a truly comical manner.
Di Canio paid dearly for his act of aggression, with Prem chiefs handing him a 11-MATCH BAN and a £10,000 fine.
