THE captaincy conversation has livened up in recent weeks and it’s far from a straightforward decision ahead of today’s deadline (6:30pm) for Gameweek 29.
Sunday’s Carabao Cup final features many of the usual suspects but the competitive nature of the match-up between Arsenal and Manchester City might force Dream Team managers to look elsewhere.

Gaffers may be reluctant to strap the armband on Erling Haaland (£6.6m) given the Gunners’ airtight defence and, equally, it would be a risk to captain Gabriel (£4.9m) because Pep Guardiola’s side pack a punch in attack.
Mikel Arteta’s troops are slight favourites to lift the trophy at Wembley but it’s a difficult fixture to predict.
Dream Team bosses might be better off searching for a viable skipper elsewhere.
Bruno Fernandes (£6.5m) is worthy of serious consideration as he boasts a mighty average of 7.8 points-per-game in 2025/26.
Manchester United’s talisman is also the game’s most in-form player at this stage.
The Red Devils travel to Bournemouth this evening and while some may balk at the prospect of captaining a player in the first kick-off of the Gameweek, Fernandes is capable of delivering a satisfying haul.

Elsewhere, Anthony Gordon (£4.3m) is a potential candidate having scored the winner against Chelsea last weekend.
Newcastle welcome rivals Sunderland to St James’ Park on Sunday and the the hosts will fancy their chances of a morale-boosting win.
The Black Cats have performed well above expectations this season but they seem to be running out of steam as the campaign draws to a close — only Nottingham Forest and Tottenham have earned fewer points from their last six games.
Gordon is categorised as a midfielder in Dream Team but has played as a centre forward in recent weeks with productive results.
The England international is also on penalties, which might be relevant in a potentially feisty derby.

Perhaps Igor Thiago (£3.8m) is captain material this weekend?
Seventh-placed Brentford travel to 15th-placed Leeds in hope of taking another step closer to European qualification.
The Bees’ No9 has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season with 19 coming in the league — he is a genuine threat to Haaland’s Golden Boot charge.
Daniel Farke’s side always put up a fight at Elland Road but only a fool would underestimate Thiago’s threat level at this point.

Some bold gaffers will be tempted to double Harry Wilson’s (£4m) points ahead of Fulham v Burnley.
The Wales international has punched well above his weight this season with ten goals and nine assists.
The Cottagers have won over half their home league games this term, the same number (eight) as Liverpool, while the Clarets have lost the joint-most games on the road.
Clearly, the match-up favours Wilson and company but there’s no doubt it would take some courage to captain him.
