The factory worker from had taken two months off work to travel across Thailand with his cousin.

The trip was supposed to be an early 21st birthday present – but now Ethan may not live to celebrate it.

He is now hooked to life support in a hospital in Pattaya.

His father Kevin told The Sun: “It doesn’t seem like he’s going to make it.”

Doctors warned that Ethan has just “a 30 per cent chance” of survival after suffering three brain bleeds.

His devastated family have flown out to Thailand – but hospital rules only allow them to spend three hours a day with their son.

Kevin, who flew from Birmingham to Thailand with Ethan’s mum Kerry said: “We haven’t even booked return tickets yet.”

His parents first started to fear something had happened to their son when he stopped sending messages for three days.

It rang alarm bells as they had spoken “pretty much every other day” up to that point.

Unknown to his family, Ethan had been riding on the back of a pic-up truck crossing a busy junction in Pattaya.

Witnesses of the accident on Saturday said his head hit the ground after falling from the van – believed to be a black Hilux Revo by local – before he was possibly hit again by the truck.

Ethan’s dad Kevin claimed that his son was tossed from the truck during an argument.

The driver allegedly failed to stop the car and fled the scene, leaving Ethan to be rescued from the junction by local residents.

Among the last messages the young Brit sent his family was: “I love you.”

Kevin added: “He lights the room up. He’s full of life and always having banter with people.”

The family have launched a GoFundMe to help cover spiralling medical and emergency travel costs.

They have so far raised £3,468 but need up to £1,000 a day to keep his support systems turned on.
