Janet Royle-Griffin, 56, had longed to tie the knot with her partner of eleven years, Gary Royle-Griffin, 43, but they kept “putting it off” due to the .

Both of them had clear hopes of what they wanted. Gary had dreamt of celebrating their nuptials in a castle, while Janet had the hopes of getting married surrounded by at a farm.

Despite them both working at a call centre, and Gary earning an additional income as a wedding singer, the pair are still only left with a combined disposable income of £157 a week.

“It’s not that we don’t try, we both work but we aren’t rich through working we both just get by,” Janet said.

In response, they were offered an unlimited budget by Colin and Razvana.

The couple, who have only been together for two years, are used to a life of luxury.

Businessman Col has a successful property surveying firm which should close around five million this year.

He also owns an event firm and has hosted for the likes of , Westlife and Five.

While the glam couple had originally planned a £100,000 wedding, with Raz hoping for a glam celebration in , they decided to embark on this challenge instead.

Col said: “There is so much pressure to have this big grand Instagram wedding and it just takes away from the whole point of it, which is to marry the person you love.”

The couple were handed an envelope with their budget for the wedding, which was a vast difference from their original amount.

Despite being tasked with spending only £3,500, the couple, who didn’t grow up rich, believed it was possible.

Col said: “It is just a for us, three and a half. If they can do it, we can do it. I think it can be stressful, but I want to prove to myself that it can be done.”

Raz challenged herself to channel her “princess vision” on a budget and managed to bag her dress at a charity shop in Wimbledon, South West London, for just £250.

The sleek gown, which was made by British designer Jenny Packham, was originally worth £4,000.

Meanwhile Col spent £390 on his suit and shoes. Over in Salford, Janet had spent a staggering £3,000 on her sparkly dress.

Gary was impressed that he had spent £2,000 on four for himself and the groomsmen.

For the hire of their venue, which included a three course meal and canapes, Gary and Janet were told it would cost £17,000.

They also splurged an eye-watering £5,350 on an enchanted forest theme and £450 for an owl to swoop down the aisle.

Elsewhere, Col and Raz had already turned down a rugby club, but managed to negotiate £1,500 for the hire of a stylish barn, due to the wedding being timed in the off peak season.

Both couples attended each other’s weddings and realised that the venues were actually quite “similar”.

Janet said: “I would have been happy with what you had. You had the fairy lights, the candles, everything I love and the venue was beautiful.

“I think they were very very similar, it was only the dressing of our venue which put a difference between it. And of course, the owl, the sheep and the lamas.”

Raz added: “I’ve never seen an owl go down the aisle, I saw it going down and thought oh my god how much does that cost.”

Col said: “It is weird when you don’t have the budget to spend, you focus on the things that mean more.”

Both newlywed couples had met up to find out how much they had spent. Raz and Col barely went over the budget and spent only £3626.08. However, Janet and Gary spent a whopping £50,118.60.

Both visibly in shock, Janet began to hold back tears. “Just think there are so many people in the world that have got nothing. That upsets me actually,” she said to the group.

“To spend that kind of money on one day is just extravagant. It is too much.”

Col consoled the 43-year-old and said she “deserved” to have the wedding of her dreams. Her husband added: “You know what though, you have worked hard all your life.

“It is nice to get something back sometimes, isn’t it? We will remember it for the rest of our lives. Don’t worry it was a special day.”

Col was moved by Janet’s reaction and said: “The genuine shock on their face when they saw how much money they spent, I wanted to cry.

“It also made me realise that we are a bit frivolous sometimes and we kind of didn’t really bat an eye lid at that number.

“Whilst money is important in life, it is not the be all or end all. I am definitely going to go into this new phase of life as a husband, not worrying so much about if I’m a success, if I’m not a success.”

Raz added: “All we wanted was to get married and be with our friends and family and have an amazing day, and that’s what we were able to achieve.”
