Former media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has expressed concerns that the Christmas Eve bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State, will be misrepresented in the coming years.
Ahmad indicated that this incident will likely be portrayed as evidence of Muslims attacking Christians in the North.
On Wednesday, terrorists believed to be Boko Haram insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a Juma’at Mosque during the Maghrib prayer.
The mosque is situated in the Gamboru Ward, near the Customs area in Maiduguri.
In his response, Ahmad stated that a false narrative would be weaponized while the truth is obscured by sensationalism.
In a post on X, he wrote: “In the near future, perhaps two or three years from now, this attack on Muslim worshippers in a Mosque will likely be portrayed as evidence of Muslims killing Christians in the North.
“That outcome would not be coincidental. It would stem directly from how certain major media outlets, particularly @channelstv and @TheNationNews, have chosen to deliberately manipulate the narrative to fit a prevailing agenda.
“When facts are distorted, contexts are erased, and headlines are crafted for engagement rather than truth, today's misinformation becomes tomorrow's so-called historical record.
“This is how false narratives are constructed, maintained, and ultimately weaponized, long after the truth has been buried beneath sensationalism.”
