BIG Brother star Liam McGough has married his fiancée in an atmospheric New Orleans ceremony.
The 42-year-old tree surgeon and and the couple wasted no time planning their special day.
They flew to the Deep South earlier this year and experienced true southern hospitality and vibrancy.
Liam told The Sun: “The wedding was amazing — small and intimate, with only close friends and family. We got married right in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana, and it was incredible. I’ve never experienced anything like it.
“The celebration was so romantic and personal, and then, for the party afterwards, we were marched around the area by a full brass band in what’s called a Second Line.
“We had a police escort blocking the roads as we danced through the streets, with four huge motorbikes and two massive police trucks accompanying us.
“The contrast between the intimate ceremony and this unique, extravagant spectacle left all of our heads spinning in the most amazing way.”
The couple, who now live in London, met by chance in the neighbouring state of Texas when Liam was on holiday with his friends.
Liam said holding the special day in NOLA felt like “real serendipity”.
Though his wife prefers to be kept out of the spotlight, Liam said she makes him “feel like the luckiest lad in the world.”
Originally from County Durham, Liam found fame on Big Brother series eight back in 2007, finishing third.
Before entering the house, he said he was in it to win it and described his ideal woman as someone he “had to work for — a challenge.”
Years later, in 2022, he dated long-term friend Emily Atack for a number of months before things became platonic again. The Rivals actress was among those who congratulated him on his engagement.
In recent years, Liam’s turned his attention to comedy and will perform his show Two Guys One GCSE at Edinburgh Fringe later this month.
He said: “I’ve been doing stand-up for about three years now and finally feel ready to take a show to Edinburgh. The show’s called Two Guys One GCSE , and it’s about being distracted at school and considered a write-off, then finding my feet later in life.
“What’s different about this show is: one, I’m working class. Less than 10 per cent of performers are, and two, I’m trying to make people laugh, not advise them who they should vote for.
“My hope is that people will come and see that the show, like me, is smarter than it sounds.”
