The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned Nigerians against the sale and distribution of counterfeit Kiss condoms in various markets across the nation.
NAFDAC issued this advisory in a public alert via X on Monday (Public Alert No. 042/2025).
It stated, “This information was received from the Marketing Authorisation Holder, DKT International Nigeria, a prominent non-governmental organization dedicated to contraceptive social marketing.
“Fake Kiss Condoms have been reported in Onitsha Market, Idumota Market, Trade Fair Market, and numerous markets in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, Enugu, and others.”
According to the agency, Kiss Condom is a brand of male latex condoms designed to prevent unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections like HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The circulation of counterfeit versions compromises their protective function.
Highlighting the potential dangers, the agency warned that using fake condoms poses significant health risks due to poor quality, lack of sterilization, and absence of regulation.
“Using counterfeit condoms poses severe health risks due to substandard quality, lack of sterilization, and absence of regulation, which can lead to ineffective protection against pregnancy and STIs. Risks include breakage, infection, allergic reactions, and a false sense of security.
“To ensure safety, only authentic, quality-assured condoms from approved manufacturers should be utilized,” the agency advised.
What should I do if I suspect I have purchased fake condoms?
