ENGLAND cricketer Ben Duckett has been fined £700 after being caught speeding at 93mph on his way to a game after pulling out of the IPL.

The opening batsman — who has averaged just 16 so far this series – was convicted of at the excessive speed on the A50 near Stoke in Staffordshire.

Married father-of-one Duckett, 31, was behind the wheel of his Landrover when he was picked up by a speed gun on August 24 last year.

Staffordshire Police later released images, captured by a traffic camera, appearing to show the star as he sped along the busyroady.

Duckett admitted to a speeding charge in September after police wrote to him to inform him he had been caught out.

He pleaded guilty after Staffordshire Police decided to bring a criminal prosecution instead of slapping him with an out-of-court fine.

The cricketer has now been handed a £700 fine, four points on his licence and has been ordered to pay £120 costs and a £280 victim surcharge.

It comes after the star pulled out of the Indian Premier League to try to save his England Test place.

As a result of the move, left-hander will lose a £200,000 deal with Delhi Capitals and be until 2029.

But he wants to concentrate on England after a nightmare winter in which he flopped in the , was sidelined in the T20 World Cup and filmed drunk during the .

Instead of the , he will play for in the County Championship.

Duckett is now set to spend hours trying to rebuild his form and confidence in the nets with Nottinghamshire and ex-England coach Peter Moores.

Rob Key has stated that the Ashes review means England will be more ruthless over selection.

So Duckett, one of the stars of the early, successful years of Bazball, knows his Test place at the top of the order is under threat.

Speaking previously Duckett admitted: “I’ve made the decision on my own accord.

“I felt the best thing for me to be ready to play for England is to be here right now, at home, refreshing my mind and body and getting in the best shape of my life come the First Test in June.

“Everything I’d done for four years was building towards this winter. This could have been the best 12 months of my life.

“I got married in October, then hoped to win the Ashes down under, play a World Cup and win that.

“It couldn’t have gone much worse but it has lit a massive fire in my belly.”

Earlier this year England’s team were put for the remainder of the winter tour.

It followed a during the Ashes and the series.

Numerous alcohol-related incidents hung over England’s shocking performances against New Zealand and .

Reports claimed that England’s mid-Ashes had a “stag-do” like atmosphere.

Duckett, who has acknowledged himself the “ridiculously big dip” in his form over the last year, dealt with his speeding prosecution behind closed doors last Friday.

He avoided a formal court hearing after entering his guilty plea online and will now be issued instructions for settling his £1,100 court bill.
