The Chairman of the Yobe State Recruitment Committee, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdul-Salam (Rtd), has voiced his concern regarding the low turnout of candidates for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.
Abdul-Salam, who also serves as the Special Adviser to Governor Buni on Security Matters, made this statement following his inspection of the Nigerian Army 90 Regular Recruit Intake screening exercise at the 241 Recce Model Battalion in Nguru, Yobe State.
He reported that out of 2,431 candidates shortlisted from Yobe State, only 1,605 had come forward for documentation at the time of the exercise.
He expressed concern that the shortfall of over 800 candidates is troubling and could negatively impact the state's ability to meet its allocated quota for the Nigerian Army.
“Many qualified candidates may be missing this opportunity due to poor information dissemination, misunderstandings, or a lack of commitment to the process,” he noted.
“There is a pressing need for increased awareness and education among the youth regarding the Army Recruitment Exercise,” he added.
The screening exercise is scheduled to conclude on December 17, 2025.
