The Nigerian Army has dismissed social media claims alleging that ISWAP terrorists kidnapped the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, calling the report entirely false.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, urged the public to ignore the rumor, stating it was intended to incite panic. She clarified that the senior officer was never captured by terrorists and returned safely from the operation.

Nonetheless, the Army confirmed that two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed when troops encountered an ambush near Wajiroko in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. The team had been conducting a routine patrol to secure the surrounding communities when they came under heavy fire while returning from the outskirts of Sambisa Forest.

According to Anele, the patrol team, led by Brig.-Gen. Uba and comprising troops from the 25 Task Force Brigade and CJTF members, bravely fought back and compelled the insurgents to retreat.

“Regrettably, two soldiers and two CJTF members made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation,” she stated.

She also mentioned that the Army High Command has expressed condolences to the families of the fallen personnel, honoring their sacrifice as heroic.
