The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has announced that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will seize control of Abia State, which is currently governed by the Labour Party.
Kalu made this statement on Sunday while addressing a gathering of his supporters and APC members at the Abia Hotels in Umuahia.
He mentioned that President Bola Tinubu is committed to establishing a seaport in the South-East geopolitical zone to enhance trade and commerce in the area.
The Deputy Speaker emphasized that the President recognizes the South-East as primarily a trading region, which is why he is dedicated to bringing a seaport closer to the community.
He stated that the time has come for Abia to be integrated into mainstream politics to reap greater benefits from the central government.
“We plan to take over Abia in 2027; we aim to collaborate with the President to advance our state,” he said.
“When they see us gathered, they assume it’s about money. It’s not about money. It’s about the affection we have for our President. It’s about the momentum building for what lies ahead in 2027.”
“The crowd present here is not a paid assembly; it’s a genuine gathering. They are here to propel both the state and the federal government forward,” he concluded.
