The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has designated Tuesday, October 7, as a school-free day to celebrate and honor teachers throughout the state.
The state's Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced this in a statement on Monday in Awka.
“Given that World Teachers’ Day in 2025 falls on a Sunday, the Governor has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honor teachers in the state,” she stated.
“Additionally, the Solution Parents League will hold a significant endorsement march to express appreciation for Soludo’s reforms in the education sector.”
“The Association of Private School Owners will also participate in the endorsement march alongside the Solution Parents League.”
“All teachers, parents, and school proprietors/proprietresses are expected to gather at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, by 8:00 a.m. sharp to honor those who deserve recognition,” Chuma-Udeh added.
According to DAILY POST, teachers across Nigeria renewed their calls on Sunday for enhanced welfare, improved working conditions, and the complete implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.
During various events held nationwide, teachers’ unions and education stakeholders criticized the slow progress of policy implementation, insufficient remuneration, and inadequate teaching facilities, which they claim continue to compromise the quality of education.
They urged both federal and state governments to prioritize the welfare of teachers and ensure that commitments made to the education sector are honored.
