The African Action Congress (AAC) has denounced the outcomes of the recent Anambra State governorship election, citing alleged misconduct and electoral violations.
The party has requested a thorough and transparent investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The AAC's gubernatorial candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, also criticized the election process, claiming extensive vote buying.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the AAC Campaign Publicity Secretary, Chimezie Nwokeanochie, noted that observations and credible reports from party agents and independent monitors throughout the state indicated that the electoral process was plagued by significant irregularities, vote buying, and breaches of established electoral protocols.
He urged INEC and other pertinent authorities to address these serious issues and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
“The African Action Congress wishes to express its deep dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the Anambra State governorship election held on November 8, 2025. Our observations, along with credible reports from party agents and independent monitors across the state, reveal that the process was marred by widespread irregularities and breaches of established electoral procedures. These include violations that compromise the secrecy of the ballot and undermine the integrity of the vote,” Nwokeanochie stated.
“The AAC firmly believes that elections must be transparent, credible, and reflective of the true will of the people. The anomalies observed during this election fail to meet these democratic standards and have, unfortunately, diminished public trust in the process.”
The candidate from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was declared the winner by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie. Soludo received a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest competitor, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who garnered 99,445 votes. Meanwhile, Sir Paul Chukwuma from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured third place with 37,753 votes.
