Management of Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP (“Alpha-Beta”) has responded to recent publications from various online media outlets alleging tax evasion and improper tax practices by the Company.

A statement released and signed by the management described the allegations as false, misleading, and malicious.

The company indicated that its response to the report was necessary to clarify the situation.

It claimed that the allegations originated from a former employee who left the Company on January 7, 2025.

The dismissal of the employee was due to a documented history of misconduct, insubordination, and violations of internal standards.

It noted, “Importantly, the former employee did not raise any allegations for several months after leaving the company. His claims only emerged at a time when he was required to address outstanding criminal matters with the Lagos State Police Command, raising serious concerns about the motives and timing of these accusations."

“Alpha-Beta is also aware of a series of anonymous emails sent to staff by individuals identifying themselves as 'Concerned Staff & Citizens,' containing false and defamatory allegations against the company’s leadership and employees.

“Given the similarities in timing, content, and narrative, Alpha-Beta has reasonable grounds to believe these publications are part of a coordinated campaign of misinformation and intimidation,” the statement continued.

In support of its denial, the company asserted, “The claim made is that Alpha-Beta engages in tax evasion. This assertion is false and arises from a fundamental misunderstanding of tax law.

“Tax evasion is a criminal act that involves the intentional concealment or failure to remit taxes owed. Tax avoidance, on the other hand, is a legal and globally recognized practice of tax planning within the framework of existing laws.

On the substance of the allegations, the statement added, “Alpha-Beta does not participate in tax evasion. The Company fully complies with Nigerian tax laws and employs lawful tax-planning practices consistent with international best practices. Alpha-Beta has undergone routine tax audits by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service for the 2018, 2019-2020, 2021, and 2022 assessment periods, all of which were satisfactorily resolved. The audit for the 2023-2024 period is currently in progress, with the Company fully cooperating.

“To be clear, no regulatory or law-enforcement authority has made any adverse findings, determinations, or indictments against Alpha-Beta concerning tax evasion.

“The employee's actions do not meet the legal or ethical criteria for whistleblowing, which requires good faith, accuracy, and lawful disclosure. What is at issue is the bad-faith disclosure of confidential information, not whistleblowing.

“The Company anticipates that more malicious publications may follow. Therefore, the public and media are advised to disregard unverified claims and exercise responsible judgment.

“Alpha-Beta urges media organizations to adhere to principles of fairness, balance, and verification before publishing allegations that could cause reputational damage.

“Alpha-Beta remains committed to transparency, regulatory compliance, and ethical business practices and reserves all legal rights concerning these false publications,” it concluded.
