The National Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT) has urged President Bola Tinubu to take more decisive action in his fight against corruption.

NACAT noted that the President’s efforts to sanitize the Energy sector were underscored by the recent resignations of Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and Mr. Gbenga Komolafe, former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The organization stated that corruption has long been a pervasive issue undermining Nigeria’s national integrity, weakening public institutions, depleting national resources, hindering development, and diminishing citizens' trust in governance.

NACAT also called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the activities of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN).

“This initiative is not motivated by sentiment, vendetta, or politics. It is based on facts, documentation, and a steadfast commitment to accountability,” the group stated during a press conference led by Fejiro Oliver, Chairman of NACAT, and Stanley Ugagbe, Operational Manager.

The organization emphasized that public funds allocated for infrastructure, rural electrification, and community development should not be diverted for personal gain at the expense of national development and institutional integrity.

NACAT announced that it would be submitting a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), requesting an investigation into the ECN.

“We formally demand that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately instruct a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation by the EFCC, ICPC, and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) into these alarming findings.

“The integrity of public office and the credibility of this administration require nothing less. Nigeria cannot continue to advocate for zero tolerance for corruption while allowing impunity at the highest levels of government.

“We therefore urge President Tinubu to translate his words into decisive action. Nigerians are weary of empty promises, superficial reforms, and selective prosecutions. The time for excuses has passed. The era of selective accountability must come to an end. The fight against corruption must be thorough, fearless, and unwavering.”
