The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has condemned a call allegedly made by House of Representatives member Wole Oke, who urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the party.

In a statement released on Sunday by its Osun State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, Accord expressed concern over a graphic circulated on social media, attributed to Oke, which requested that INEC revoke the party’s registration.

The party characterized this move as a deliberate attempt to mislead the electoral body and pressure it into taking what it termed an unlawful action against Accord.

According to the statement, “the alleged call for deregistration was aimed at preventing Governor Ademola Adeleke from contesting the Osun governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026, under the Accord banner.”

Accord emphasized that it remains a fully registered political party that has adhered to all constitutional and statutory requirements outlined in the Electoral Act.

“Accord has consistently participated in elections throughout Nigeria and has met, and even surpassed, the conditions required of registered political parties,” the statement noted.

The party dismissed the claims of potential deregistration as baseless and misleading, urging its members and supporters in Osun State to stay calm and focused.

“The alleged campaign should not divert them from their political goals.

“Rather than allowing such claims to unsettle our supporters, we encourage them to remain composed and dedicated, awaiting an appropriate response at the right time,” the statement added.

Accord also urged Oke to refrain from attempting to associate the party with controversies and political disputes.

The party called on the lawmaker to concentrate on his legislative duties to constituents in the Obokun–Oriade Federal Constituency.

Reaffirming its legal status, Akande stated, “The party remains solidly registered, legally grounded, and firmly rooted among the people.”

Oke, who represents the Ijesa South (Obokun/Oriade) Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, had posted on social media, “INEC should deregister Accord Party now. The party has no elected officials in any office in Nigeria. Sections 225A & 84 (16) of the Electoral Act 2022 authorize INEC to deregister political parties like Accord for non-performance.”

Since this post was made on his Facebook page on Saturday, it has provoked reactions from various political parties.

The identity of the poster and the fact that Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform have added significance to the post.
