FORMER Manchester City and Norwich defender Åge Hareide has passed away at the age of 72.
It was announced last month that the former Norway international, who earned 50 caps for his country, had been diagnosed with brain cancer earlier this year.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that the veteran had sadly succumbed to the illness, with tributes pouring in from fans in England and his native Scandinavia.
City released a statement on their social media, stating: “We are saddened to learn that Åge Hareide, the Club’s first Norwegian player, has passed away at the age of 72.”
Hareide made 24 appearances for the club after joining from Norwegian side Molde in 1981.
He later extended his career in England by transferring to Norwich City in 1982, where he made 52 appearances over two years.
The Canaries also issued a statement, expressing: “Norwich City are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Åge Hareide.
“Our thoughts are with Åge’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
Hareide left England to return to Molde in 1985, where he became a player-manager, eventually fully committing to a managerial role after retiring from playing two years later.
He went on to manage seven clubs and three national teams, winning top division titles with teams in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.
