The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has reported that at least 9,600 teachers have registered for the upcoming competency test in the state.

The Executive Chairman of the Board, Professor Haruna Musa, shared this information while updating journalists on the Board's preparations for the assessment.

He explained that the purpose of the test is to identify the specific training needs of teachers, which will help enhance their skills and improve educational outcomes throughout the state.

He mentioned that a total of 12,000 teachers are anticipated to register before the process concludes.

Professor Haruna highlighted that this initiative is in line with Governor Umar Namadi's "12-Point Agenda," which emphasizes reforms in the education sector. He also noted that the state government has consistently invested significantly in improving educational infrastructure to foster quality learning.

He expressed concern that over 70 percent of the 9,600 registered teachers have not participated in any capacity-building programs since their hiring, with some having over 15 years of service.

Following the examination, he stated that teachers will be categorized into three groups: Group A – teachers who possess both knowledge and teaching skills; Group B – teachers who have adequate knowledge but lack teaching skills; Group C – teachers who lack both knowledge and teaching skills.

Professor Haruna emphasized that this classification will assist the Board in developing customized training programs aimed at enhancing professionalism and elevating educational standards in Jigawa State.
