Zamfara: Troops eliminate bandit leaders, recover heavy weapons

Published on May 02, 2025 at 02:49 PM

Troops of the Nigerian Army under 1 Brigade have eliminated two additional notorious bandit leaders and recovered more weapons during a follow-up operation at Mai Kwanugga village in Talata Mafara LGA of Zamfara State.

According to intelligence gathered by Zagazola Makama, the operation followed the May 1 offensive by troops of Counter-Terrorism Team 6 (CT 6), which resulted in the death of several terrorists, including key commanders Auta Jijji, Dankali, and Sagidi.

Military sources disclosed that at about 5:00 a.m. on May 2, troops returned to the area along the terrorists’ likely withdrawal route.

During this exploitation mission, the soldiers recovered one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube bearing serial number 50297 and two RPG bombs.

The clearance operation also confirmed the deaths of two additional bandit commanders—Kachallah Rijaji and Kachallah Suza—who were reportedly killed during the earlier confrontation.

Locals in the area verified their identities.

Rijaji and Suza were infamous for leading numerous deadly raids and kidnappings across Zamfara and neighboring states. Their elimination marks another critical blow to terror networks in the region.

Troops have since intensified mop-up and clearance operations to ensure no surviving bandits or weapons are left behind in the area.

The Nigerian Army high command, according to the sources, reiterated its commitment to eliminating criminal elements in the North-West and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
