Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the appointment of Dr. Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, as the new State Commandant of the Community Protection Guards (CPG).

The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced the appointment, which is effective immediately.

He stated that the governor has also mandated a thorough review of the Community Protection Guards to tackle operational and administrative issues that are impacting the agency's performance and service delivery.

In a statement, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Suleman Ahmad Tudu, mentioned that Dalijan brings over thirty years of experience in policing, security management, and leadership, along with expertise in community engagement and counter-terrorism operations.

Dalijan previously held the position of Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State from 2023 to 2025.

He has also occupied several key roles nationwide, including Police Component Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East, Deputy Commandant of the Police College in Kaduna, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Rivers State, and Coordinator of Operation Restore Peace in the South-South region.

Until his retirement in June 2025, he served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Counter-Terrorism at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Governor Lawal expressed confidence that Dalijan's understanding of Zamfara's security challenges and landscape would aid in repositioning the Community Protection Guards to effectively fulfill their responsibilities in alignment with his administration’s rescue agenda.

The governor also praised the immediate past commandant for his service to the state, wished him a swift recovery, and assured him of the government’s ongoing support.
