The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zamfara State has reported a six percent decrease in road accidents compared to the same period last year.

The Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, made this announcement on Monday during the launch of the 2025 Ember Months Campaign in Gusau.

He stated that the command recorded 46 road accidents in 2025, a reduction from 56 incidents in 2024, which translates to a 6.27 percent decrease.

In the 2024 accidents, 51 individuals lost their lives, and 259 were injured. Ma’aji attributed many of these casualties to mixed loading practices among truck drivers who transport goods, animals, and passengers together.

While conveying the message from Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, Ma’aji emphasized that the theme for the 2025 campaign, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” underscores the importance of drivers avoiding risky behavior while driving.

He pointed out that human factors such as driver fatigue, overloading, and unsafe transportation methods continue to be significant contributors to accidents across the state.

“The campaign is designed to tackle traffic violations and enhance road discipline among motorists as we near the end of the year,” Ma’aji remarked.

He also mentioned that the command has implemented new enforcement strategies to promote safer roads during the holiday season.
