James Ogaba Oche, the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission in Benue State, has said Nigerian and African youths should be inspired to explore their innate potential for the betterment of the continent.
Oche also called on youths across the spectrum to uphold and advance the promotion of human rights.
Oche stated this on Tuesday while delivering a keynote address at the International Youth Day celebration put together by the African Youth Union Commission, held at the National Human Rights Commission Headquarters in Abuja.
Mr Oche, who was represented at the event by Barrister Abraham Onoja, stated that the youths today are bedevilled with many confrontations ranging from poverty, unemployment, lack of support, and molestation from state actors on unsubstantiated allegations of criminality.
These confrontations, he said, have militarized and intimidated the potential of the youth, dwindling their output and encroaching on and delimiting their potency.
Oche further tasked government and non-governmental agencies to create an enabling environment to help the youths thrive, citing an example of himself, having held several leadership positions to wit: three-time Senior Legislative Aide to the then President of the Senate, Vice President of the Idoma International Carnival, Commander of the Homeland Defence, two-term caretaker chairman of Ado Local Government, two-term Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government, as well as Federal Commissioner, among others.
