Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has responded to AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Swedish star claimed that Erling Haaland’s progress at Etihad depends on the ego of his manager.
Ibrahimovic had a problem with Guardiola during their time at Barcelona when the Swede was furious at being sidelined in favour of a young Lionel Messi.
The former Paris Saint-Germain attacker wrote disparagingly in his autobiography that Guardiola’s treatment of him was akin to buying a Ferrari and driving it like a Fiat.
According to Ibrahimovic, Guardiola could hinder Haaland‘s development at Man City.
Reacting to Ibrahimovic’s comments, Guardiola said that the former Manchester United player was completely right.
“He is right, he is completely right,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Fulham on Saturday. “In this club, in this team, my ego is beyond every other person, every player.”
“I don’t like it when Erling scores three goals, and all the highlights are for him. I am so jealous! Honestly, so jealous!
“I said, ‘Erling, please no more goals, otherwise the newspapers won’t talk about me, and just about me’. He is right, he knows me perfectly. He can write another book.”
