Young Offenders star Demi Isaac Oviawe was ‘delighted’ to show ‘Ireland is diverse’ by wearing an African print dress for the most recent episode of the series.

The actress of Nigerian descent stunned in the beautiful gown during the debs episode of the show on Friday night.

Demi, who plays the role of Linda Walsh, said that the ‘small gesture’ meant a lot as she never saw anyone ‘who came from the same cultural background’ on Irish television while growing up.

She said: “Last night was the DEBS EPISODE of the young offenders. This is one of my most favourite episodes by far!

“Head of costume Lara came to me and asked if she could make an African print dress for the show! And of course I was DELIGHTED!”

Demi revealed that after weeks of working on the design, she was thrilled with the final product.

“After weeks of coming up with a design and being poked with needles ( cause I had many fittings) we came out with a beautiful design.”

“Growing up I never saw anyone like me or who came from the same cultural background as me on Irish television.

“With this small gesture I hope that I can show that IRELAND IS DIVERSE AND ITS OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT AND BE PROUD OF WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!!”
