Former England international, Gary Lineker heaped praises on manager Gareth Southgate for playing Jordan Henderson and Phil Foden during the Three Lions’ FIFA World Cup 3-0 win over Senegal on Sunday.
Southgate started both Henderson and Foden against Senegal at Al Bayt Stadium.
Henderson broke the deadlock after Jude Bellingham set him up with a pass inside the penalty area.
Foden, on the other hand, was the creator of both the second and third goals for Southgate’s side, with Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka applying the finishing touches, respectively.
In a post via his Twitter handle, Lineker hailed Southgate for making bold, controversial calls to field Henderson and Foden against Senegal.
Lineker tweeted: “Beautiful football again from @England. Credit to Gareth Southgate for his decisions. Both his controversial picks have played a part and scored. What a time to be alive!”
England will clash with France in the quarter-final on Saturday.
