DIEGO MARADONA grabbed all the headlines when Argentina won the 1986 World Cup.

Forty years have passed since then and his son Roman Andres is now looking to write himself into the sporting history books.
But instead of in the blue and white of , it was in the all-white of as the 24-year-old made his All England Club debut.

Roman Andres looked to be following in his father’s footsteps with him at River Plate until he ditched at the age of eight in favour of picking up a racquet.

He won his maiden ATP Tour match at the Cordoba Open in 2024 – just a few minutes away from the Mario Kempes Stadium where his dad scored his first Argentine Primera Division goal.
Jorge drove 435 miles from Buenos Aires to be there and has supported his son’s career every step of the way.
Speaking exclusively to about his dad, Roman Andres said: “I’ve watched the match and the goal that he scored. In Argentina, he’s very famous, of course.
“To many people he’s an idol. I saw that goal many, many, many times. He’s my dad and I’m proud of him. I’m very proud of him. He gave me a lot of advice about the sport.
“We played different sports for sure but in some kind of problems, I think all the sports are similar.
“I listen to him and we talked much about these kinds of things.
“The advice that he gave is to keep fighting, keep always your mind in the match, step by step.
“It’s inspiring (having a famous dad) but for me it’s a pleasure. I always say that. I’m very proud of him and I like it.
“My plan is to keep playing this kind of tournament, the best tournament in the world against the best players.
“I really like to make big steps in tennis and hopefully to keep improving my tennis, my ranking, I like clay more, but I also like to play on hard especially.”
