THE World Athletics Championships have been severely disrupted by rain.
Discus and high jump events were suspended at the last minute in Tokyo, despite athletes already being on track.



With raining hammering down at Japan National Stadium, the discus and women’s high jump were forced to be rescheduled.
The women’s high jump final had been approaching its end when it had to be paused.
While the men’s discus was not able to get underway at all.
Despite the inclement conditions affecting the field events, the track schedule was able to go ahead as planned.
Next up was the 4x100m women’s relay final, which was not disrupted.
On the wet track, Team USA were able to claim gold.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden started the relay, before handing over to Twanisha Terry.
Kayla White the picked it up, before Sha’Carri Richardson got the Americans over the line.
Jamaica claimed silver in the race, just 0.04 seconds behind the USA.
As part of the Jamaican team, 38-year-old track legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce claimed her 25th medal across World Championships and Olympic Games.
Germany finished third to earn bronze, just ahead of fourth-placed Team GB.
Earlier in the day, Team GB in the women’s 800m final, with Georgia Hunter Bell earning silver and Keely Hodgkinson grabbing bronze.
