A PENSIONER has tragically died after a fire erupted in a town centre flat in the early hours.

Emergency crews rushed to the inferno on Castle Street at around 3.30am.
West Mercia confirmed that a woman, aged in her 80s, tragically died at the scene.
Residents were quickly evacuated from the area as another person suffered injuries not deemed to be serious or life-threatening.
The force said a critical incident was declared and a cordon remained in place across the surrounding roads through the afternoon.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service will be carrying out an into the blaze, which is not currently being treated as suspicious.
Locals had been urged to avoid the area as emergency teams supported evacuated residents.
Superintendent Helen Kinrade said: “Sadly one person has died in the fire which started in the early hours of this morning.
“Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this tragic time.
“A multi-agency response has been established, led by our colleagues at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, to tackle the fire with Shropshire Council supporting local residents who have been evacuated.
“Surrounding roads have been closed and we would ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to deal with the incident safely.”
Shropshire Council has set up a number for those looking to get in contact with friends or relatives who may have been evacuated.

The fire erupted at a commercial property on High Street during the early hours of Monday, January 26.
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters scrambled to the scene to extinguish the blaze on Derry Street.
