VITOR Pereira and Wolves were being booed off by half-time in their 3-1 defeat to Leeds at Molineux.

It’s hard to believe that only on Thursday the Portuguese boss was handed a three-year contract extension, as his side stretched their dismal run to FIVE defeats on the bounce in the Premier League.

Their bright start to the game signalled hope in the pouring Midlands rain, though the miserable weather soon reflected the mood of the home supporters.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin perhaps should’ve opened the scoring within just six minutes, as Gabriel Gudmundsson was set free by a one-two on the left-hand side, only for his square ball to just evade the outstretched foot of the English number nine.

Wolves however, were not wasteful early on, their trio of summer signings, Tolu Arokodare, Fer Lopez and Ladislav Krejci combining to see them take the lead in the Premier League for the first time this season.

Czech defender Krejci, on loan from Girona, got the finishing touch, as he stormed through a gaping hole in the Leeds defence, latching on to a fine Lopez pass and dispatching the ball past Karl Darlow in net.

The Whites reacted well to going behind away from home, however, showing the kind of grit necessary to beat relegation in the top flight, as they did four seasons ago.

After applying plenty of pressure, the visitors finally got their breakthrough after 25 minutes, Calvert-Lewin opening his account for the season.

Beating Yerson Mosquera in the air looked easy for him, followed by a looping header in front of the Wolves fans, after a deep cross from Omar Bogle on the right-hand side to level the scoring.

Anton Stach didn’t wait around before giving Leeds the advantage heading into half-time either, with a sensational free-kick.

A silly foul from goalscorer Krejci on the edge of his own box on Calvert-Lewin gave him the opportunity, as he perfectly curled the ball around the wall and into the top right corner of Jose Sa’s net.

The home side’s misery was compounded by Noah Okafor seven minutes later, who capitalised on a silly Emmanuel Agbdaou error and rolled the ball past Sa to make it 3-1 with his left boot.

Wolves had almost lost all hope by half-time, and boos rang out as the players trudged off the pitch and down the tunnel.

Those boos prompted three changes from Vitor Pereira, with the returning Jorgen Strand Larsen amongst them, replacing Fer Lopez after a spell on the sidelines with injury.

Hugo Bueno and Marshall Munetsi joined him as Wolves desperately searched for even a point.

Munetsi came the closest to getting his side back in the game in the second half, forcing Darlow into a sharp save with a header from close range after 52 minutes.

Darlow was in fine form to deny the midfielder again moments later, as a right-sided cross aimed at Tolu was headed down to him in the centre of the box, just for the keeper to be equal to his volley.

As the home side looked for a goal, the crowd grew more and more frustrated.

Chants were directed at Chinese investment group Fosun International, which acquired the club in July 2016, with a clear message: “We want Fosun out”, followed by “You sold the team, now sell the club.”

The pressure certainly mounted on Leeds in the second half, but the West Yorkshire club stayed resolute, drawing clever fouls from the desperate Wolves, who were biting at the visitors with every given chance.

With two more changes, there were no more goals, and Daniel Farke’s side managed the game brilliantly to see it out without conceding another late goal as they did against Fulham.

The result leaves Leeds in mid-table and Wolves dead at the bottom of it, still without a point to their name.

If they don’t turn things around here fast, facing a visit to Thomas Frank’s Spurs up next spells nothing but more misery in the Midlands.
