At 7-7 in the second set tiebreak, Shapovalov chased down a forehand.
After striking the ball, the southpaw’s momentum took him into the green sheet that separates the outside courts.
He immediately winced in pain and was looked at by a physio.
Shapovalov eventually got up to play another point, dumping a forehand into the net, clinching Carreno Busta a 6-3 7-6 lead in the process.
The former Wimbledon semi-finalist was seen by the physio again at the end of the set.
He then decided to retire from the match, appearing to tell Carreno Busta: “Sorry man, I think I f***ed it.”
