The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that a new waste management system will commence on Monday, November 17, 2025, to ensure a cleaner and better-organized Abuja.
This information was disclosed following the FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
While addressing journalists, the Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Amechi Obuah, stated that the committee approved new contractors for waste collection and management throughout the FCT.
He further mentioned that the approval also encompassed the acquisition of treatment plants and the maintenance of supervisory utility vehicles.
Chief Obuah expressed confidence that the new system would enhance sanitation and contribute to a cleaner Abuja.
“Residents should anticipate a cleaner city,” he remarked.
The Head of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, indicated that the committee also sanctioned funds for emergency waste evacuation from open dumps, waterways, and streams in the Dogon Gada community within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
He confirmed that a total of N111,913,176 was approved for the contract.
Additionally, the FCT Transportation Secretary, Hon. Chinedum Elechi, announced that funds had been allocated for printing services for the Directorate of Road Transport Services.
He also noted that approval was granted for the maintenance of 34 old traffic lights and the installation of three new ones in the city.
The Chief of Staff to the Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, stated that Wike is dedicated to making Abuja cleaner and more organized.
“The Minister is deeply concerned, especially regarding the contract related to waste management, and he is very serious about it as it directly affects the cleanliness of the city,” he added.
