The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Community in Côte d’Ivoire, Davidson Ogbu, has stated that they have successfully repatriated around 2,000 trafficked underage girls from the French West African nation.
Ogbu shared this information on Friday during his appearance as a guest on Arise Television.
“The tragic murder of Destiny, a Nigerian girl from Delta State who was trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire for prostitution, has sent shockwaves throughout the country.
“We are doing everything we can to stop this, but they continue to come. There is no definitive way to put an end to it.
“In the past three years, we have successfully repatriated approximately 1,500 to 2,000 underage girls who were victims of human trafficking from Nigeria to Côte d’Ivoire.
“These are underage girls; I am referring to girls under the age of 16. We have even encountered cases of 14, 12, and, quite heartbreakingly, 10-year-old girls being trafficked into Côte d’Ivoire for the same purpose,” he expressed with sorrow.
