“We suffered subjugation in the hands of colonial rulers and calculated post-colonial domination,” the paramount ruler said.
The Hoba Chiefdom was created last December alongside four other chiefdoms and two emirates across Adamawa State by the Fintiri administration.
Before attaining autonomy as the Hoba Chiefdom, the people of Hong, the Hoba nation, existed as a loose entity under the Adamawa Emirate, which has its headquarters in far-off Yola, the state capital.
Emphasising the sense of marginalisation his people experienced before the creation of the chiefdom, the Tol Hoba said:
“We fought hard for restoration, we were battle-weary but we held on; we were resolved to come to this day when we can celebrate.”
He thanked Governor Fintiri for making the dream of the Hoba people a reality.
Responding, Governor Fintiri said he needed no elaborate thanks, as he merely did what he was convinced was right.
The governor said his administration remained committed to ensuring development and creating an environment where all people could take pride in their shared identity.
