ASTON VILLA fans have praised goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for his input leading to the club’s second goal against Manchester United.
After Leon Bailey’s 7th-minute opener, Lucas Digne doubled the lead four minutes later with a sublime freekick into the top corner.
However, he had a helping hand from his goalkeeper who could be seen positioning Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa into his counterpart David De Gea‘s eye line.
The Argentine‘s commands left the United stopper unsighted and unable to get close to Digne’s effort.
A fan captured the moment on video and the clip has been met with joy from Villa fans.
One said: “Absolutely class from Martinez!!! You just love to see it. That and Man U getting a hammering.”
Another said: “Look at Martinez directing the Villa players to block De Gea’s view, class!!”
A third tweeted: “I wondered what he was up to from my view at the top of the Holte. Absolutely love Emi! Such a character & a superb goalkeeperâ¦must keep that armband!!”.
A fourth said: “Martinez deserves an assist for that!.”
The goal set Villa up for the win as Jacob Ramsey’s own goal before halftime had given the visitors a sniff of getting back on terms.
But four minutes into the second half, Ramsey found the right goal and sealed all three points for Villa and Emery.
Up next for Villa is another game against United, but this time at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup tie on
