VIOLENT scenes have erupted outside an ICE detention center as rival protesters clashed with each other and cops in a days-long demonstration.

Pro and anti-ICE groups gathered outside the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday and with deployed.

Footage and images from the scene show fires being set by masked demonstrators, police in riot gear facing off with activists, and attendees giving each other medical assistance.

Protesters against ICE have been camped at the facility largely in peaceful protest to support detainees who they say are being kept in inhumane conditions, which the DHS denies.

But New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said that as pro-ICE groups arrived, .

She said that protesters “attacked” a barrier between cops and demonstrators before officers were charged at, projectiles thrown, and fires set.

“We denounce any violent conduct that interferes with peaceful protesting,” Davenport said.

“And we will ensure that we can simultaneously protect public safety for our residents and our law enforcement officers.”

The clashes that went on late into the night saw Newark Mayor Ras Baraka declare a 9pm to 6am curfew that is now in force until further notice.

“Due to the escalating situation at Delaney Hall and the increasing need for police intervention, immediate action is required to protect public safety,” the mayor said.

“Multiple individuals have already been arrested and found in possession of weapons, underscoring the seriousness of the threat.”

The Department of Homeland Security issued an update in the early hours of Sunday morning saying the area had eventually been secured after the hoards dispersed.

“ANYONE who attempts to obstruct law enforcement or disrupt our facility will face the FULL weight of the law,” the department said.

“WE WON’T BACK DOWN.”

State Governor Mikie Sherill said she would work to establish a area outside the facility in a bid to stop any further violent clashes like after the

However, she warned non-residents to stay clear of the center after five out of six people arrested at the scene on Friday night were found to not be from New Jersey.

“To the people coming from out of state to create chaos and dangerous situations, you should not be here,” she said at a news conference Saturday afternoon.

“You are not helping the people detained at Delaney Hall. You’re not helping detainee families, and you’re certainly not keeping New Jersey safe.”

Allegations have been made that detainees at Delaney and other immigration detention centers are being illegally held and subjected to violence and horror conditions, all of which have been denied by the DHS.

“There are no subprime conditions,” DHS said in an online statement.

“ALL detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap, toiletries, and opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers.”

Meanwhile, the department has said it is facing a “coordinated campaign of violence against ICE law enforcement” and that it “must end.”

On Saturday, the department claimed ICE agents had been “bitten and faced death threats and assaults from violent rioters.”

But Senator Andy Kim who has visited the facility accused DHS of “pouring gasoline on the fire.”

“Detainees protesting the lack of due process, the disgusting food and poor treatment while their families and advocates stood outside calling for help,” he said.

“Instead of engaging with me and others about the poor conditions, ICE sent in an armored vehicle and a line of armed agents that only poured gasoline on the fire.”

“The only way to make this right for our communities is to shut [Delaney Hall] down and make sure the failures we’ve seen never happen again.”

Mayor Baraka said he has requested the assistance from the Governor to get help with the Attorney General for an independent investigation of the facility.
