The United States diplomatic missions in Nigeria will observe a temporary closure on Monday, September 1, 2025, in recognition of the U.S. Labour Day holiday.

In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, the U.S. Mission confirmed that both the Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will suspend normal operations for the day.

Labour Day, marked annually on the first Monday of September, is a major federal holiday in the United States dedicated to celebrating the role, resilience, and achievements of American workers and the labour movement.

“Please note that the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will not be open to the public on Monday, September 1, 2025, in observance of Labour Day,” the announcement read.

The mission further explained that all routine consular services will be paused during the holiday.

However, persons facing emergencies are advised to check the U.S. Mission’s official website for guidance and contact details.

Diplomatic activities and consular services are expected to resume fully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
