The left the council-owned land close to the A44 last year after a legal order was issued for them to vacate the illegal site, reports MailOnline .

The outlet reported the order came after a slew of complaints from furious locals who said those responsible have caused “real problems”.

They’re now demanding a clampdown on similar illegal sites in Leominster after the latest was left looking like a “war zone”.

Astonishing photos show mountains of waste piled next to overturned with rubbish including dirty nappies strewn across an acre of grass.

Filthy mattresses, tyres, furniture, broken toys and and an array of other rubbish has all been ditched and will now have to be cleared by Herefordshire Council.

Dan Jones said travellers are regularly seen in the area and are “generally very well behaved and cause no bother”.

“However, this particular group have caused real problems. I was shocked when I saw the state of the site they had camped on,” he said.

“It was literally covered in piles and piles of rubbish and old and burnt-out vehicles. It was disgusting.”

He added that it was a “massive problem” and that those responsible for the mess have simply moved further down the road.

Another resident said those who had left the mess were “common criminals” and claimed nobody was doing anything to protect “law-abiding people”.

He said: “They moved onto the land illegally, left it looking like a war zone and taxpayers will foot the bill. How on earth is that right?”

Such was the reputation of the site that it earned the name “The Backyard Campsite” on in 2025 with one reviewer labelling it a “cultural black hole”.

Herefordshire Council are now tasked with cleaning up the waste left behind after admitting lat year they would be responsible for removing it.

The authority said they had previously “exhausted” their options in managing the site and the situation could have descended into court proceedings.

It was previously considered whether the site could be used as a stopping point in the long-term.

But the idea was scrapped after local residents reportedly voiced concerns over safety and alleged anti-social behaviour.

The travellers moved on after a legal order from the council under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
