Arsenal legend, Emmanuel Petit, has urged Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire, to leave Old Trafford and join a new club on a loan deal.
Petit said Maguire needs to play, adding that a new environment will be good for the England international.
He also has compared Maguire to AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud.
Maguire recently suffered criticisms from football pundits and fans over his performances for Man United.
But the 29-year-old defender was impressive for England during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and Petit feels that the criticism of Maguire went way too far.
“I really like Harry Maguire’s performances,” Petit told Mega Casino.
“I thought he had a really good tournament [2022 World Cup]. Just like Giroud, he has gone through some terrible criticism, so I was happy to see him play well.
“The criticism of Harry Maguire went way too far. Some of the pundits in England need to take a look at themselves for the way they treated Maguire.
“They talk too much. I am not sure if Maguire will stay at Manchester United because it is a different story for him there now with [Erik] Ten Hag as a manager.
“Maybe he will leave on loan? Whatever happens, he needs to play, and he needs to be confident because he’s a different player when he is confident. Perhaps a new environment will be good for him.”
