THIS is the apocalyptic moment a train is engulfed by a raging wildfire as a record-breaking heat dome plagues North America.

Footage recorded by crew onboard the locomotive shows a wall of flames as the train passes through what would normally be a lush forest in Northern Ontario, .

The terrifying video captured the moment the vehicle is engulfed by towering flames, with intense fire visible on both sides of the tracks.

The scene looked straight out of hell – an eerie orange glow within the train and a view outside that could be mistaken for the inside of a furnace.

The driver said: “This could potentially overtake us here, this is getting a little scary, holy s**t. We’re encased in flames now.

“Okay y’all need to hurry up here,” he said through his radio.

The incident took place at Armstrong, near the US border, after a train crew detached from their locomotive to rescue a foreman on Tuesday.

It is understood while attempting the rescue amid dense smoke and poor visibility, the detached unit reportedly collided with its own train, sparking additional fires before the crew abandoned the locomotive and escaped on foot.

Miraculously, all crew members survived the incident.

An estimated $25,000 worth of wooden beams used for railway tracks were destroyed.

This hellish train ride comes amid a wildfire emergency in with 128 active wildfires burning across north-western Ontario alone.

Armstrong, where the apocalyptic scene happened, is under an evacuation order along with Lac La Croix First Nation, Collins First Nation, Whitesand First Nation and Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation areas.

The sky turned yellow in Montreal on Wednesday morning due to the smoke from the burning.

Several communities are under evacuation orders due to the rapidly spreading blazes.

More than 100 million people have been placed under heat alerts, with Ottawa and Toronto forecast to hit 38°C.

Over in the United States, Minnesota Governor mobilized state National Guard troops to battle wildfires on the state’s northern border with Ontario.

He said: “I’ve declared a peacetime emergency and mobilized the National Guard to assist with wildfire response in northern Minnesota.

“Minnesotans extend our deepest gratitude to all of the first responders working around the clock to keep their neighbours safe.”

It comes as at the time of writing.

Last week’s devastating wildfires have now claimed 13 lives in the Andalusian expat hotspot.

More than 7,000 hectares were destroyed after the blaze erupted last Thursday.

The Foreign Office said: “Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the devastating wildfires in . We are supporting British nationals affected and their families and remain in close contact with the Spanish authorities.”
