Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has praised Victor Boniface for his immediate impact at the club.
Boniface registered his seventh assist of the season in Die Werkself’s 1-1 draw at VFB Stuttgart on Sunday.
It was the forward’s 21st goal contribution since his arrival at the BayArena this summer.
The 22-year-old has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances for Leverkusen across all competitions.
Alonso admitted he was surprised with the Nigerian’s impressive start to life at the club.
“We could not be certain that the players would perform so well straightaway,” Alonso told a press conference.
“With Victor Boniface, he is still very young; maybe we didn’t expect this so quickly from him.
“But obviously, we are also very pleased that he has made such a good impact as well.”
