Pigott was a seam bowler for Sussex and Surrey and he took a hat-trick with his firs three balls on his first-class debut against Surrey in 1978.

He went on to take more than 1000 wickets at first-class and List A level.

But his crowning achievement was the one cap he won for England.

Pigott received a late call-up as injury cover to play New Zealand in Christchurch in 1984.

And due to the late notice he was forced to postpone his own wedding in order to play.

Pigott spent 18 years playing for Sussex and later returned to the club after he retired.

He led the club board as they became the first team to install floodlights at their ground.

While he appointed Chris Adams as captain in 1998, who later said Pigott laid the foundations for their first County Championship win in 2003.
