In November, the British fighter from Wigan was diagnosed with “significant traumatic bilateral Brown’s syndrome” and ongoing double vision.

Aspinall has shared his experience, stating,

He mentioned on Paddy Pimblett’s YouTube channel: “It’s been quite a lengthy process because, with other injuries, they tend to fix them immediately.

“However, with eye injuries, due to the potential risks, they prefer to allow them to heal naturally.

“So, we are proceeding with surgery. It will keep me sidelined for a while. I’m uncertain about the duration.

“We have a meeting regarding it soon. This has been a slow process – truly a nightmare, to be honest.”

Referee Jason Herzog deemed Gane’s eye poke to be accidental – but Aspinall, 32, countered: “He did it three times in one round.

“The points deduction should be eliminated. The first one is an accident; the second one is intentional.”

He also disclosed in December that he intends to fight again once he recovers.

He stated: “That’s the plan. By the time this is published, I’ve probably already undergone surgery on one side.

“The next surgery is scheduled for mid-January. We are working towards my return, and that’s the goal.”
