The hit Netflix documentary series Tiger King is getting a mini-series adaptation with Kate McKinnon attached to star, with the real-life woman she’s playing, Carole Baskin, urging her not to use live tigers in the series.

Baskin, the owner of Big Cat Rescue who feuded with Joe ‘Exotic’ Schreibvogel, told TMZ through a rep that she thinks it would be ‘cruel’ to use real tigers in the mini-series.

While McKinnon is attached to star in the series, which hails from Universal Cable Productions, it isn’t set up at a network yet, but Baskin is still urging the production to use CGI tigers.

‘We hope McKinnon has a passion for animals and that her series will focus on the horrible lives captive big cats lead when exploited by breeders like Joe Exotic,’ the statement began.

‘We further hope she urges the public to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act that would end the cub petting abuse in America,’ the statement concluded.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has also echoed Baskin’s sentiment.

PETA hopes the show will, ‘use only CGI, animatronics, or even existing footage of big cats and other animals’ for the mini-series.

McKinnon was first cast as Carole Baskin back in November, according to a Deadline report, months before Netflix’s Tiger King documentary series debuted.

While no other cast members have been announced for the mini-series, Robert Moor, whose Tiger King podcast the show will be based on, suggested casting Margot Robbie as Joe Exotic.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy Sirius XM show on Monday, Moor suggested Robbie in a gender-swapped role.

‘My preferred casting, and this is a bit off the wall, would be Margot Robbie,’ he said. ‘I think Margot Robbie should play Joe in like a gender-switched role.’

When Cohen asked if he was involved in the casting, Moor said he is ‘beyond involved,’ and said that Sam Rockwell’s name has been bandied about for Joe Exotic, though his pick is Margot Robbie.

Netflix’s seven-episode Tiger King documentary series launched on March 20, and has quickly become a hot topic of conversation on social media.

The series centers on the eccentric Joe Exotic, described as a, ‘mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country western singer who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo.’

The show follows his rivalry with Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary threatening to put Joe Exotic out of business.

The rivalry eventually leads to Joe’s arrest in a murder-for-hire plot to kill Baskin, along with 17 charges of animal abuse.
