Celebrity Traitors finalist Marler, 35, raced to the £125,000 question.
And as a former sportsman himself, the ex-prop might have fancied himself with a question.
But he was left stumped as he was asked by host Jeremy Clarkson: “Which of these multiple winners of the men’s singles title has NOT been victorious in consecutive years?”
The four options were Pete Sampras, , and .
Marler said: “I wouldn’t even know how to try and work it out.
“I love my sport, I love a bit of tennis. But I’m not a hardcore fan of it and I wouldn’t be able to work this one out.”
He then added: “I’m going to have to… I want to leave!”
Marler decided to take his £64,000 and end the game.
But before he left, Clarkson asked him to give the answer that he would have gone for.
Marler opted for Pete Sampras… which would have been wrong.
American Sampras won the men’s singles title three times between 1993 and 1995 – then four more times between 1997 and 2000 as he ruled over SW19.
Federer, meanwhile, won five of his eight Wimbledon titles consecutively between 2003 and 2007 – before adding more titles in 2009, 2012 and 2017.
Djokovic won his first Wimbledon in 2011, then again in 2014 and 2015.
The Serb then won four more in a row between 2018 and 2022 – with the Championships not staged in 2020.
This means that the correct answer was Rafael Nadal.
The King of Clay was a proficient grass court player in the 2000s, reaching five out of six finals between 2006 and 2011.
Nadal managed to get over the line in 2008, in what is widely heralded as the greatest tennis match of all time, and again in 2010 – but never consecutively.

Fans were left split over how difficult or not the question was.
One incredulously asked: “This question was worth £125,000 on Who Want to be a Millionaire?”
Although a second claimed: “Honestly the hardest WWTBAM question I’ve ever seen haha.”
A third pointed out: “Folks who don’t actively follow Tennis would never guess Nadal cos of his fame.”
Although another added: “That was easy.”
Marler had on the £500 question.
The Harlequins legend asked the audience “Which snake shares its name with a type of long scarf often made from feathers?”
A whopping 93 per cent of the studio audience went for Boa – which turned out to be correct.
